Java Runtime Engine

The newest Java Runtime Engine, Version 7, is not compatible with Blackboard Learn 9.1 SP3, the version we are using. If you have upgraded your Java runtime to Version 7, you can still download and use Version 6, which will work with Blackboard. Click here to download the installer for Version 6 for Windows: JavaInstallerWindows. If you need assistance with installing Java or if you are accessing Blackboard using any version of Mac OS X, please contact the Help Desk for more information.

Internet Explorer 9

Internet Explorer 9 has not been certified to be compatible with Blackboard 9.1 SP3, the version we are using. In particular, the Grade Center will not load in IE 9, except with Compatibility Mode turned on, and display of the Grade Center is missing the last row of data in FireFox 4 on default view (you should be able to make the display font smaller with Ctrl(-) to correct this issue).

If you are an instructor and are having problems with the Grade Center or other functions in Blackboard, we recommend you first attempt the same action with Compatibility Mode turned on; if that doesn't work, try switching to a supported browser (see table above or list below).

IE 9 and Firefox 4 will be certified for use with a future version. In the meantime, we continue to recommend that instructors use Internet Explorer 8 with Compatibility Mode "On", Internet Explorer 7, Firefox 3.5 or above on Windows, or Firefox 3.5 or above or Safari on OS X. For students, we recommend using Firefox 3.5 or above on Windows, or Safari on OS X, due to issues with quizzes in Internet Explorer. To date, Firefox 4 appears to be functioning with Blackboard, but because it is not officially supported, we cannot recommend upgrading beyond Firefox 3.6 at this time.

Note: If you choose to upgrade to Firefox 4, please be sure that you are using the most recent versions of all plugins such as Flash and Adobe Reader, and that you have the most up-to-date version of the Java Runtime Engine. (04.12.11) (06.02.11)
