Blackboard 7.3 has a feature that lets you change between two views in the discussion board. The two views are List View and Tree View. You can change the view in Blackboard by clicking on the these buttons found in the upper right of the screen and circled in red below.
For instructors, the tools that are available in each of the views differ. In List View instructors will find the Change Status tool which controls which posts are hidden, unavailable, locked or published. By selecting the post or posts to be changed via the checkbox beside each post, the instructor can change the status in the dropdown selection box.
By default, List View lists the posts in reverse chronological order, with the newest posts at the top. By selecting the small triangular arrow above the heading of each column, the list can be re - ordered by that column. This allows the list of posts to be re-ordered by date, thread, author, status, unread posts or total posts.
List view can also be filtered by using the Display dropdown at the bottom of the page. Here, the user can choose to display all, published, hidden, locked, unavailable or draft posts.
Tree View presents the thread starter messages and their child messages. The child messages can be expanded and collapsed by using the plus/minus icon next to each message. Unread threads and posts are displayed in bold type; if a thread starter message has unread children, then the thread starter message is displayed in bold if its children are collapsed. A search function and an action bar that includes the following functions are available at the top of the page.
