Learn to Use Blackboard
In addition to the problem resolution available from the Help Desk and Web Services for technical issues which occur in BlackBoard, ATUS Instructional Design also offers professional development support in the "how to" and "why to" of using this powerful online resource most effectively. Your instructional objectives for using BlackBoard to provide teaching and learning benefits are carefully considered. In small-group and one-on-one sessions best-practice strategies are explored to match BlackBoard functions to your specific goals and desired outcomes.
ATUS on-campus workshops
One or more of our five different Blackboard workshops are offered by the ATUS Instructional Designer on our Friday afternoon workshops throughout the school year. These workshops,
- QuickStart Introduction,
- Using Assignments and Gradebook,
- Introduction to Online Testing,
- Integrating Communication and Collaboration
- and Classroom Response System,
give you the opportunity to attend just those sessions most closely matched to your level of experience and instructional objectives. You can choose to attend multiple workshops on the same afternoon or spread them out over several weeks. To register please use the ATUS training web site.
Remote Assistance
Both on- and off-campus faculty will be able to request that the ATUS Instructional Designer connect directly to their office computers for demonstration and problem-solving
Individualized sessions
You can schedule customized sessions in your office with the ATUS Instructional Designer. These sessions, tailored to your instructional objectives, can include "how-to" procedures plus discussions of online teaching/learning strategy and best-practice models when using different BlackBoard functions
Tutorials
ATUS Instructional Design, working with Woodring's CCE program in an internship arrangement throughout Spring term, is developing a repository of tutorials in both print and narrated multimedia format. These enhanced tutorials will be made available to you in several ways:
- as links from the How To section of the ATUS/BlackBoard site
- as e-mail attachments in response to your phone and e-mail requests for professional development support
- from the "Faculty Resource Repository" area within the Control Panel of your course (if you don't see this area in your Control Panel please contact Peter Agras by email or at 360-650-4159)
- as take-away materials in the BlackBoard workshop binders.
