Computer Consulting & Maintenance

We keep the computers in faculty and staff offices and general University labs running with the software and hardware you need to function effectively in the WWU community.

Services

  • Connect to the Network
We will help you get access to Western's network resources, including email, network printing, and WWU servers. The process starts with getting an account application from the ATUS Help Desk in HH 145. After the accounts are processed, we will help you configure your computer and install the proper software.
  • Use the Network to Share Information
Computer Consulting can advise you and equip you to share files with your colleagues on campus. We can help you create the proper groups and network permissions that enable you to use the WWU file servers and Outlook public folders to collaborate effectively on campus.
  • Configure Software
Once you order software from Software Services, Computer Consulting can help you configure your new applications or operating system to work best in the WWU environment.
  • Troubleshoot Software
Computer Consulting can help you trouble-shoot problems you may be having connecting to the network or running your applications. We encourage the use of campus supported software which has a track record of reliability and supportability in the WWU environment. In addition, ATUS training is available to help you use applications effectively.
  • Repair and Maintain Computer Hardware
Computer Maintenance is responsible for the repair of microcomputers, printers and FAX machines, including setup and maintenance of ATUS Computer Labs. For more information on charges, go to ATUS Pricing Policies.
  • Consult for Facilities Upgrades
Computer Maintenance is involved in making recommendations for facility upgrades. These include recommendations for equipment replacement, facility modifications, and major renovations to meet changing computer user needs.
  • Consult for Equipment Purchases
Computer Maintenance can evaluate and specify all types of computer equipment purchases. This process includes writing purchase specifications ranging from CPUs to printers. It is very likely that purchase specifications may be on file to assist in your equipment ordering process. Computer Maintenance also provides Security Devices for computer equipment.
