Faculty/Staff Software Policies & Distribution
As a member of Western's faculty or staff, some software is available to you at no cost via a university site license. This includes anti-virus and spyware software. Also donations from Microsoft, which include Microsoft Office, are available at no charge.
Additional software is available to you at educational prices. This software is for university use only, on university computers and remains the property of Western Washington University. There are some software licenses which have 'work at home use rights'. These include Microsoft Office and the anti-virus software. They are not for personal use, but for work at home.

If a product has an X in the Work@Home Rights column of the Availability and Pricing list, it is available for your work at home.
The Work@Home offering is not an employee purchase plan offering. It is only for working at home on WWU business - not personal use. WWU, not the employee, retains the rights to the Work@Home license.
If you need software for personal use, see the Personal Use software section.
The Work@Home program provides you an opportunity, at no extra charge, a second license for your work at home computer.
A Work@Home license may only be acquired in connection with a product licensed to run on your 'at work' computer.
You must be the person licensed for the product on your 'at work' computer. This offering is not available for shared computers and licenses.
If you qualify and need a product for working at home, please complete the Work@Home form.
Distribution
Once the forms have been received in Software Services, the installation media will be made available. Please indicate on the form how you would like the software installed.
- Install software yourself via network server - The software will always be available to you for reinstallation, upgrade or repair.
- Install software yourself via CD - If for some reason the server method is not acceptable, and the software is available on a CD, then you may borrow a CD (or CD set) for up to two weeks. You can borrow it again at any time to re-install or repair your licensed software. You can either pick up the CD at our Help Desk HH 123) or have it delivered in the campus mail.
- Technician software install - Another option is for one of the ATUS or your departmental technical consultants to install the software. If they are installing the software from the server, please let me know in advance who the technician is so permissions are in place. If they need a CD follow the second choice above for delivery.
Methods for acquiring software vary according to the source and cost. Phone 650-3159 for more information.
