How to Map a Network Drive (for Macs)

See instructions for PCs

Many of the servers on campus can be mapped to a drive so that the server appears to be part of your hard drive. Just as your P drive is mapped to your department files, and your U drive is mapped to your personal file area and your myweb area, other servers can also be mapped to your computer to provide you easy drag-and-drop access. The most common use of this is for those responsible for maintaining their department website on the Ra server, so this is the example we'll show below. However this procedure can be applied to any server on campus that has mapping available.

Please contact webhelp@wwu.edu if you have any questions about a particular server.

To connect to a network share on a Mac, follow these steps:

  1. From the Finder program, click on “Go” and select “Connect to Server”. Or select the Apple key and K at the same time
  2. In the address box, type in your samba share name
    1. For racer: smb://racer.atus.wwu.edu/sharename
    2. For ra: smb://ra.cc.wwu.edu/sharename
    3. For myweb: afp://wuf-xxxx-wuf.wwu.edu (where xxxx is stu1 stu2 stu3 or user1 user2 user3 – call the helpdesk x3333 to determine your server).
  3. You may be asked to enter your username and password
    1. Students: .username.students.wwu
    2. Faculty: .username.users.ww
