Modem Pool Policy

To all student modem pool users:

In response to student complaints about busy signals when dialing into the modem pool, a policy was implemented in October 2000 that limits modem pool access during prime time hours. During the hours of 4:00 pm to 12:00 am, Sunday through Thursday, individual use of the modem pool is limited to 4 hours per day. The modem pool will automatically deny access to any user who attempts to dial in after exceeding this four-hour daily limit. The intent of this policy is to ensure that the modem pool is available for academic use as often as possible.

Please be aware of the other limitations on student modem pool usage:

• All modem pool clients have a 30 hours per week limit on the modem pool. Should a student go over this 30 hour limit, their account will be put on hold and they will have to contact the system administrator to get their account re-enabled.
  
• The maximum duration of a session is 2 hours for the off campus student modem pool, and 2 hours 30 minutes for the Restek modem pool.
  
• If the connection is inactive (no activity to or from the user's computer) for 15 minutes, the connection will be disconnected by Titan.

Please be courteous to your fellow modem pool users by:

• Limiting non-academic modem use to non-prime hours.
  
• Preparing email and other documents off-line whenever possible.
  
• Being aware that other students are waiting to use the modems for academic work.
