How to Upgrade to Microsoft Update

In the past, your Windows XP and Windows 2000 could be set to update itself on a schedule.  But if you had other Microsoft products, such as Word, Excel, etc., you could easily forget that those need updates as well.  Microsoft has released a new service that will look for all Microsoft products on your computer and see if they need updates.

  1. To install this, simply go to the Windows Update site (you can also find it from your Start menu, All Programs or from the Tools menu in Internet Explorer) and look for the “News” section on the right side of the window. If it says "Upgrade to MS Update" then you can proceed with the following steps. Otherwise your computer has already been updated and the following steps are unnecessary.
