Blackboard Workshops

Blackboard Online Course Design – Integrating Communication and Collaboration

 

Description

The Communication and Collaboration workshop is most appropriate for faculty who:

  • are experienced in using the basic BlackBoard functions covered in the QuickStart workshop

  • wish to extend and enhance their courses with interactive whole-class and group activities

This workshop would also be appropriate for staff who are developing “community” sites within BlackBoard which require discussion among the participants.  Focus is on BlackBoard functions which support instructor-student and student-student communication and collaboration:

Objectives

  • ability to use Blogs, Wikis, Collaboration Tools and the Discussion Board

  • able to create and use Groups

  • know when to best use the File Exchange function

  • understand how to assign activities and privileges in the various communication tools

  • aware of effective instructional strategies for managing group projects and discussions

  • aware of effective instructional strategies for assessing both individual and group performance

  • aware of effective instructional strategies for managing whole-class discussion forums

Prerequisites

Each participant should confirm that they have a login name and password for BlackBoard prior to the workshop (this information should be the same as the Novell login). If there are difficulties, please call the Help Desk at 360-650-3333 or Web Services by email
