Maintaining the privacy and confidentiality of
user information is one of the primary responsibilities
of technical support staff. To underline the importance
of this responsibility, all ATUS staff members
have signed a Privacy and Confidentiality of
Information Agreement. While we are certain
that all of our staff members already respect the
privacy of their clients, we want to ensure that
everyone is aware of specific privacy policies
and procedures. We also want you to know that we
take these obligations seriously enough to make
a personal commitment to maintain personal privacy.
The signed agreement includes the following components:
- A personal commitment to only gain access to
information that is essential to the performance
of client support duties.
- A commitment to maintain the confidentiality
of content information that we come into contact
with as we support clients.
- Acknowledgement of familiarity with official
university policies related to Ethical Computing,
Release of Information, and use of state property.
- A further commitment to only use "elevated" computer
privileges (e.g., access to lists of accounts)
for authorized duties in support of assigned
tasks.
As a further check on privacy, all staff members
agree that if they are asked to release private
information in a way that compromises the above
privacy policies, they are required to refuse the
request and to seek authorization from the internal
auditor or Vice Provost of Information. This rule
applies even to requests from authorized parties
such as freedom of information requestors or law
enforcement.
We all take your privacy seriously and have made
a personal commitment to consistently maintain
privacy in our actions. We encourage other campus
technical support personnel who come into contact
with client information to adopt a similar written
policy. |
