One constant about software is that it is always changing. This article includes information about several version upgrades and a new distribution program for some Adobe software . The ATUS Software Services web page has pricing for the most frequently purchased software. Please contact us by email Software.Services@wwu.edu or phone 650-3159 if you have questions about software that is not listed.
SPSS Statistics 17 is now available. This is a name and version change from SPSS 16 which is installed in general university labs and classrooms. Anyone currently licensed for SPSS 16 can upgrade to SPSS Statistics 17 for no charge.
SPSS software is licensed on an annual basis. New licenses are $40 now for administrative users. Academic colleges have contributed to the SPSS Enterprise Site renewal so there is no charge for new licenses for faculty & staff in academic units until next year’s renewal. Information about SPSS Statistics 17 features and an SPSS version comparison is available at http://spss.com/statistics/. Software license and billing forms are available at the ATUS Software Services web page. For more information please contact us by email Software.Services@wwu.edu or phone 650-3159.
Thomson Reuters EndNote software is used for organizing and managing references and creating bibliographies automatically. Information about new features available in EndNote X2 version 12 is available at http://www.endnote.com/enx2info.asp. A new EndNote X2 license costs $113 (Windows and Mac). An upgrade is available to licensees of prior versions for $72. EndNote Web, a complimentary web interface designed primarily for undergraduate research, is now available for free to everyone with an email address ending in wwu.edu.
A comparison of EndNote X2 and EndNote Web is available at http://www.endnoteweb.com/. Extensive online resources including video tutorials are available at http://www.endnote.com/support/ and http://www.endnoteweb.com/support/
For a more personalized training session on EndNote X2 and EndNote Web, please contact ATUS Training staff members David Hamiter, 650-4976 or Kevin Dixey, 650-7222.
Adobe Creative Suite 4 software (Adobe CS4) is now available. Product upgrades include Photoshop, Dreamweaver, InDesign, Flash, and Premiere. Bundled upgrades including Adobe CS4 Design Premium and Adobe CS4 Web Premium are often the most economical way to obtain the software. Product information and pricing is available at the ATUS Software Services web page.
Free upgrades have already been distributed to those who added the annual Adobe Upgrade Plan to their software purchase. Please contact us if you have an upgrade plan and have not received your Adobe CS4 free upgrade.
If you are using Adobe CS4 programs, please let us know of any compatibility issues with prior versions such as the Adobe CS3 Design Premium programs which are currently installed in general university labs. We would also appreciate feedback on new features which you find particularly useful.
A limited number of Adobe Acrobat 8 and Adobe CS3 Illustrator licenses are available at discounted prices. Adobe Acrobat 8 is available for $30 compared to Acrobat 9 for $62 and Adobe Illustrator CS3 is available for $50 compared to Illustrator CS4 for $122. If you’ve wished you had Adobe Acrobat to create or edit pdf files, or Adobe Illustrator for creating just the right design, take advantage of this special opportunity while licenses last. Order using Software Services E-sign Billing Form linked on at the ATUS Software Services web page.
Adobe software is usually licensed for a specific user or workstation. For academic institutions only, Adobe also has a concurrent licensing model that is based on the number of simultaneous users accessing the software program from a networked environment. By taking advantage of this offer, WWU can now install Adobe CS4 Design Premium on all the computers in general university labs and monitor usage to document that we do not exceed the number of concurrent licenses owned. Concurrent licenses are more expensive than individual licenses, but because they can be installed on more workstations than licenses, the per-workstation cost is actually lower and the availability of the software is greatly increased.
We are introducing a new Campus Concurrent Program for Adobe Design Premium CS4 and Adobe Photoshop CS4 to make this flexibility available to faculty and staff workstations. Consider the terms of use and pricing if this program is the best fit for your needs.
Prices are subject to change, and will probably increase, but the Campus Concurrent Program will remain less than an individual license.
