Record Your Presentation with Camtasia Relay

Issue 47, Winter 2011

by John Farquhar

Have you ever needed to record your classroom lecture? Or, have you wanted to make a recording of a presentation in the comfort of your office or home? ATUS is now providing these services (also known as lecture capture or screencasting tools) through Camtasia Relay. The Camtasia Relay product has been licensed for campus use and consists of a desktop application where the computer screen recording is captured, as well as a video encoding server and host for video storage. Recordings made on a desktop or laptop computer in a classroom or office are easily and conveniently uploaded to a server.

The server will encode the recording into several file formats for distribution on different devices. The default profile will automatically produce two files: one in Flash format for playback on most desktop computers, and one in a format appropriate for iPods and iPhones. An email will automatically be sent with a link to the recording(s) which can be posted in Blackboard or forwarded to students or colleagues.

For more information, or to get started with Camtasia Relay, go to https://west.wwu.edu/atus/multimedia/camtasia.shtml for a link to an introductory video or to request an account. Classrooms currently configured for Camtasia Relay are FR 3, FR 4 and HH 153. Other classrooms are being configured to capture audio from the installed wireless lapel microphone. If you'd like to request that your classroom be configured for Camtasia Relay, please contact me, John.Farquhar@wwu.edu or 650-6538. Or, to request that your classroom be configured for Camtasia Relay, contact Classroom Services, 650-3300.
