The BBIC was primarily a real-estate speculative venture, which branched out into resource extraction and railroads. This collection contains the records of the Bellingham Bay and British Columbia Railroad, the Bellingham Coal Mine, the Bellingham Bay Lumber Company and the Bellingham Securities Syndicate. The collection contains ledgers, records of land sales, plat maps and extensive correspondence. The collection also includes an important and extensive selection of maps showing lands owned by the BBIC and its subsidiaries, including the Bellingham Bay and British Columbia Railroad. The collection also contains several plat maps. |

| Description: The Centennial Oral History Project entails a series of interviews conducted with long-time Bellingham residents from a diverse cross-section of the Bellingham community. The project focuses on local history through personal memories of significant events. Topics of discussion in the oral histories include local environmental issues, healthcare, entertainment, Native American issues and other ethnic and race relations, industry and businesses, transportation, and education. The Center also collaborated with the City of Bellingham to produce a video versios of several of these interviews. The interviews were conducted by James Hillegas and include conversations with George Davenport, Lois and George Garlick, Pauline Hillaire, Lenny Hovde, Jim Roberts, Betty Russell, John and Nina Sternhagen, Myrtle Molly Thompson, Dr. Arthur Watts, Margaret Watts, Jane Hovde, Gordy Tweit, and Tut Asmundson. |

| Description: Galen Biery, a longtime employee of Pacific American Fisheries, was one of Bellingham, Washington’s best-known local historians. The Biery papers and photographs comprise subject files, scrapbooks, newspapers, audio and visual materials, maps and photographs spanning the period ca. 1861-1992, with the bulk of records dated 1880-1992. These records reflect Biery’s fascination with the local history of Bellingham and Whatcom County, Washington, as well as his other interests including Alaska, the fishing and salmon canning industries, photography and early radio. Items of particular interest include Biery’s recordings of oral interviews with notable local individuals, scrapbooks of clippings and photographs, and materials pertaining to Pacific American Fisheries. The collection also contains maps and a large number of photographs documenting the landscape and communities around Bellingham Bay and Whatcom County and the development of local and regional industries. |

Booker was senior partner in the construction firm of Booker and Campbell, which worked on many projects in Mexico, Whatcom County and Vancouver, BC. It includes correspondence and materials related to mines at Granite Creek, Ruby Creek, Slate Creek, and Canyon Creek. Also included are Granite Creek Gold Mine Co. stock certificates (some belonging to Teresa Eldridge) and other items involving mines in Whatcom County and timber lands in Mexico. |

The company took a leading role in developing markets for Pacific Northwest bottom fish, such as perch, rockfish, and flounder. The collection includes a scrapbook, numerous photographs, and documentation of the major fire in 1985 that destroyed the plant, which was later rebuilt. The collection also includes 1939 and 1941 Wholesale Fish and Shellfish Reports, which were completed for the State. |

| Description: The James W. Bosch collection includes biographical material, lecture notes, bibliographies, research materials, articles, publications and theses on anthropological topics. The topics include political anthropology, kinship and family organization, Indian acculturation. Bosch also worked for the Washington State Mental Hospital and the collection includes significant material relating to mental disease. Dr. Bosch, a former chair of Western Washington University, Department of Anthropology, collected much information on Northwest Coast and Navajo Indians, including news coverage of these people. Included also in the collection is a significant group of photographs taken by Bosch of the American Southwest, the Pacific Northwest and Eastern Washington, and some photographs of Navajo's. |
