| Title: Mason (David T.) Papers |
| |
| Description: Collection includes notebooks, journals, photographs, posters, programs, correspondences, reports, speeches and writings, clippings, original scores of music, and publications relating to the work of David Mason, beloved professor of Fairhaven College. Biology, ecology, humanities, and gay studies, were among the myriad of classes Mason taught. As well as teaching, Mason pursued biological and ecological research in Arctic Alaska, Mono Lake California, the Stehekin River and Uruguay. He also led many local environmental activist projects, studied woody debris habitats, water quality studies of the Nooksack River and Lake Abert, and many extended research projects about Georgia-Pacific's use of chlorine and mercury, and recycling efforts in Lynden, Washington. Mason also directed, produced, composed, and performed in many "Friends of Fairhaven" plays and operas. This collection also includes newspaper clippings and photographs belonging to David's parents, Herbert and Lucile Mason, two renowned scientists at UC Berkeley during the mid 1900s. The collection contains photographs circa 1850s which relate to Skagit and Whatcom counties where Lucile (Roush) Mason grew up. |

| Description: Collection of materials from the Bellingham and Portland, OR band, Motherlode. Motherlode, a band comprised of four lesbian women, began in 1980, and harbored a large following of lesbians in Washington State and the Pacific Northwest. Members of Motherlode include Nan Collie, Kathleen Fallon, Marie Dodge Eaton, and Janet Peterson. The band played at a variety of venues including local area and Portland bars and cafes, Seattle's Museum of History and Industry, women's retreats, WWU sponsored events such as Mama Sundays, and the Pacific Northwest Women's Music & Cultural Jamboree. Motherlode also played at several benefits for Gay Rights political group Hands Off Washington. This collection consists of flyers, posters, presspackets, ticketstubs, original lyric sheets that were later included in the band's record albums, newspapers,photographs, and a "20th Anniversary" commemorative video tape of the band. |
