Title: Shiels, Archie W. papers
 
Description: Archibald Williamson Shiels was both a maker and a recorder of Alaskan history and folklore, and former president of Pacific American Fisheries. His papers consist of research material, publications, personal papers, maps and charts dating from around 1790 to 1965. The documents reference a number of topics primarily related to Russian America, the Alaskan Territory, and the State of Alaska, including boundary disputes and the Bering Sea controversy regarding fur seal fishing. Other topics include Alaska Natives’ fishing rights and transportation throughout Alaska, Canada, and the Pacific Northwest.

Title: Skagit County Abstract Company records
 
Description: Collection includes a series of complete abstracts of land titles, a series of subject files, and a small number of maps relating to Skagit county, arranged geographically according to their township/range plat locations. A series of glass plate negatives of photos of pages from a large book of plat maps of the same area is also included. The geographic region includes roughly the area from Township 32 North to Township 38 north, and Ranges 1 through 9. The majority of the properties involve Mt. Vernon/Burlington, Sedro/Woolley, and Anacortes, though outer county areas, such as La Conner and very small communities, as well as several cemeteries, are also present in the records.

Title: Skagit County Oral History Project records
 
Description: The collection contains microfilm copies of oral history transcripts. The interviews were conducted by the Skagit County Historical Society with local residents and concern numerous topics such as social life, historical change, politics, agriculture, fishing, and timber. Interviews were conducted between 1962-1979.

Title: Smith, Frederick E. Papers
 
Description: The Frederick E. Smith papers document the research and interests of self-trained historian Frederick E. Smith. The bulk of the collection comprises research material regarding the Equality Colony, a socialist Utopian Colony based near present-day Bow-Edison in Skagit County, Washington between 1897 and 1907. Smith’s papers include correspondence, note cards, photographs and newspapers compiled during the course of his research, as well as drafts and a final version of his manuscript, Equality Colony. The collection contains reel-to-reel audio recordings of Smith’s oral history interviews about history of the Equality colony and its members. Audio recordings also include interviews regarding the history and culture of the Samish tribe, copies of radio programs regarding the International Workers of the World (Wobblies) and recordings from international radio broadcasts.

Description: The Southwestern Alaska Cannery Logbooks include logbooks from the Squaw Harbor Cannery, Olga Bay Cannery, Petersburg Cannery, and one unknown journal. They span 1918 to 1929, including 1932, 1941, and 1950. They discuss ship arrival and departure, personnel, daily duties accomplished, injuries, and the weather.

Description: The M. L. Stangroom Papers document the work and personal life of M. L. (Marc La Riviere) Stangroom, a former engineer for the Bellingham Bay and British Columbia Railroad. The collection includes Stangroom's personal correspondence and professional materials, as well as newspaper clippings from around 1855-2005. The collection also contains papers related to Stangroom's daughter, Zoe Stangroom Kimball.

Title: Sullivan, Michael
 
Description: Michael Sullivan was the Historic Preservation Planner for the Whatcom County Park and Recreation Board. He was instrumental in both the Whatcom County Historical Preservation Survey and the Vintage Bellingham Survey. This collection documents the two important historical preservation projects, and also contains various research and reference materials on Whatcom County pioneers and places gathered by Mr. Sullivan during his career.

Al Swift discusses his congressional career as the representative of the second congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives between 1978 and 1994. Topics discussed include his appointment to the House Commerce Committee as a freshman, and to the House Administrative Committee, as well as the Northwest Regional Power Act, Motor Votor Bill, campain finance reform, timber resource management issues, impact of the spotted owl controversy on rurual communities, along with the evolution of Congress during his tenure.
