Sehome School House

Galen Biery Collection: Center for Pacific NW Studies Western Washington University

The Sehome School house, built in 1861, was the first public school building in Whatcom County. The school building was constructed of rough lumber cut from the Roeder Mill. The school was located near Sehome Mine at the present site of Maple Street and Cornwall Avenue. The teacher, Miss Isabella Eldridge was the daughter of Honorable Edward Eldridge. Henry Roeder son, Victor Roeder and Hugh Eldridge, the son of Edward Eldridge were students at the school.
