Description: Eighth in the group of ten photos relating to Jimmie Pickett's life after his father left for the Civil War. Although unidentified, this is likely the red, leather-trimmed trunk that contained Jimmie's belongings when he went to live with the Collins family. It contained a Bible, a lock of Jimmie's hair, a letter about Morning Mist, two white gloves, presumably used in the wedding ceremony between General George Pickett and Morning Mist as well as letters from Catherine Collins and LaSalle Pickett, his step mother. Morning Mist had brought the trunk from Russian America where the North Coast Indians lived. It was typical of a Chinese tea chest brought to the North Coast Indians by Russian trappers to trade. It now (2001) resides in the Washington Capitol Museum in Olympia. See also photos 2713-2719, 2721-2722.
