"I have forgotten where I was when I wrote to you last. I have been sketching all along the coast. Have had a rough trip. All kinds of travelling, horseback, steamboat, stage, rowboat, cars, & on foot, bad weather & general discomfort. "But we are back into douglas Co. again which is a lovely country. And the spring weather is fine. "This volume of the History is nearl ycomplete, and we go back t to Portland in a couple of weeks. Description: Second of two negatives that constitute a copy of a letter sent by Jimmy Pickett to his foster-mother: (cont. from photo #GB1380.1) "readings, Tableaux, &c. And the two sides take turns at entertaining each other. "At the end of the quarter the side that has furnished the best entertainment during the past quarter is invited to an oyster supper gotten up at the expense of the other party. My side is getting badly beaten & I guess will have to furnish the supper. "Well if you write soon, write to Roseburg. I will write soon as I get to Portland and tell you where to address me. Had a letter not long ago from my step-mother. She is in Washington & has been very sick. "Well I must close. "So Good by "Very Truly Yours "James Pickett"

Description: "Wardner Castle" at about the time of its constuction in 1890. Designed by Frank Longstaff and H. N. Black for early Fairhaven speculator, James F. Wardner. He resided in the house, located at 1103 15th Street, only one year before selling it to a Montana syndicate headed by Peter Larson. Except for changes in the landscaping, the exterior of the house remains unchanged today (2003).

Description: The Nelson Block located at the south east corner of 11th and Harris was built in 1900 by J. P. Nelson using money he received from the sale of a fishtrap to Roland Onffroy who was the founder of P.A.F. (Illustrated Inventory of Historic Bellingham Buildings by Turbeville, Daniel E.) Back caption: "American National Bank. So. Bell. Nov 3, 1925." In 1925, the President of American National Bank was I. J. Adair; V.Presidents were Cyrus Gates and Everett B. Deming. The upper floor, corner room, is occupied by the offices of Dr. Frank A. Wheaton.

In 1925, George E. Finnegan sold "Drugs, Druggist's Sundries, Eastman and Ansco Cameras and Supplies" according to Polk's Directory.

Description: Back caption: "McKenzie Avenue, looking east from 10th Street." The road has piles of lumber adjacent to the street, perhaps for use as paving. The first of several false fronted buildings on the the north side of the street is The Capital Sample Room, an establishment offering the lager beer of J. Schlitz. A double team of horses are hitched to a wagon at the edge of the board sidewalk. A horse and cart, without a driver is standing in the middle of the street.

Now (2003) this is the Amtrak/Greyhound Terminal.
