Description: A steam donkey sits at the bottom of the incline railway that leads from the town of Diablo to the top of the Seattle City Light Dam. The receiving platform at the top is under construction. The lift was first used to lift men and materials during the construction of Diablo Dam, which was completed in 1929. Then, beginning in 1937, supplies for construction of Ross Dam were brought by train to the foot of Diablo Dam. From there, the laden railroad cars were brought up on the lift to the upper level, loaded on barges, and taken up Diablo Lake to the new dam site.

Description: Front caption: "Baptist Sunday School Picnic at Orcas Island. June 4, 1888. --- by Steamer Skagit Chief." People line the upper decks of this sternwheel driven steamer. There is no way for the people on the boat to get to shore: One portion of the ramp between the floating pier and the mainland pier has caved away; the other portion appears to be under repair. The "Skagit Chief" did service on Puget Sound from the mid 1880s, and after frequent groundings and crashes (1890, 1900, 1901), she was rebuilt and renamed the "Port Orchard." In 1907 "Skagit Chief/Port Orchard" was rebuilt and renamed "Tourist" used in the transport of Bremerton Shipyard workers. In 1938, her steam engines were removed and her hull was abandoned in Lake Union.
