BELLINGHAM – Western Washington University will host “Western’s Really Big Weekend” for students, parents, alumni and local community members Nov. 4 to 6 in a celebration that will include fireworks, planetarium shows, performances by pianist Yong Hi Moon and folk-rock singer Brandi Carlile, departmental open houses, football and other athletic events and much more. This new event marks a combination of the efforts of several previous fall events at Western – Homecoming, Western Fall Welcome and Fall Family Open House. Events are free, unless noted. Celebrating teaching and scholarship, the College’s Center for Excellence in Management Education hosts an afternoon of workshops led by students, faculty and industry partners on key issues in business education and research. The two recipients of the 2005 Distinguished Teaching and Distinguished Research Fellowships will be recognized at a luncheon. Part of Western’s long history of focusing on the environment has been the relationship of art in the landscape as exemplified by specific works in the WWU Outdoor Sculpture Collection. Convinced that the rules of great architecture – aesthetic design and space design – can be integrated with “green building” issues, the Western Gallery in partnership with the NW Chapter of the American Institute of Architects has organized an architectural exhibition that educates and inspires. · Distinguished Alumni Dinner, 5:30 p.m., Wade King Student Recreation Center, during which the WWU Alumni Association will announce the Distinguished Alumni for 2005.
