Description: Caption: "Whatcom looks over at Sehome." in 1883. The brick building in the foreground was the meeting place of the GAR (Grand Army of the Republic) in the early 1900s. It was the first brick building in Washington Territory and the Whatcom County Courthouse from 1863 to 1890. In the center is the Phelps and Van Wyck building which housed a bank, post office and theater in 1884. The elevated roadway is Holly Street.
